As you may know – or not, we are huge fans of the Hemel-en-Aarde Vallei/Valley. (Heaven and Earth Valley if you translate it directly). It is a well-known wine region close to Hermanus in the Western Cape, and in our humble opinion, the best Chardonnay and Pinot Noir producers in South Africa is located there. Our personal favourites include Creation, Ataraxia, Sumaridge – a true heaven for wine lovers.
But, sure you will hear our thoughts and opinions on that beautiful part of our country at a later stage.
That is not what this post is really about. I was thinking about wines with a romantic story/connection and also what wines do we have that have got seductive and simply dreamy names? Three wines and wineries immediately popped into my head (the other 2 you will hear a little more about during this “Valentine’s Week”).
La Vierge was the first – for obvious reasons, the names of their names isn’t just romantic, it is downright sexy! And their byline… “Wines of Desire”. Let this roll off your tongue… The Affair, Last Temptation, Nymphomane, Seduction… Grrrrrr… (That was a sexy growl, in case you missed it). Yes, that will work for me, thank you very much!
A little bit more about the wines, but first – the wine farm and tasting room. La Vierge is almost right in the middle of the Hermanus Wine Route It is a very impressive place, right on a hilltop, so you can see it from a distance. Clean lines, modern looking, and PINK. Yes, we were there a while ago, but it sure left a lasting impression!
With a stunning view from the top, the tasting room and restaurant is quite funky and stylishly decorated. A gorgeous space to spend a long and lazy lunch, just taking in the scenery and breathing in the fresh air. You can truely see for miles!
The restaurant is also widely acclaimed – with a lot of praise for the steak dishes, but this time we had only one thing in mind – tasting the wine! (This was our 2nd stop on a daytrip to explore this area, so we were on a mission).
We were most impressed by the Nymphomane, a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Merlot. And I quite liked the The Affair, a 100% Pinot Noir. And the wine labels are simply gorgeous – what to see a bit more (I’m not keen on ‘borrowing’ photos that aren’t mine, so rather go and check it out directly on their website: https://lavierge.co.za/ ). And while you’re at it, take some time to read the tasting notes – yes, I told you the ideal wine to impress your lover with! #HowABlogPostHelpedMeToScoreOnValentinesDay
